Robin Scott Joins Ying Quartet

We’re excited to announce that Robin Scott will be joining the Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet as the Grammy Award-winning ensemble’s first violinist beginning next season. “Robin is both an insightful, creative musician and top-shelf violinist, and we are thrilled to be to begin the next chapter of our quartet’s life with him,” said David Ying. “From the first phrases we played together, the musical chemistry was alive and electric.”

As the new member of the Ying Quartet, Scott is joining the group’s siblings and founding members, cellist David, violist Phillip, and violinist Janet. He will also be appointed to the faculty of the Eastman School of Music, where the Quartet is the string-quartet-in-residence. Robin Scott has competed internationally, winning top prizes at the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, Irving M. Klein International String Competition, Stulberg International String Competition, and WAMSO Young Artists Competition. As a soloist he has appeared with the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, the Orchestre National de Lille and others. He has also attended the Marlboro Festival for an unprecedented seven summers as well as Ravinia Festival's Steans Institute for Young Artists. Scott studied with Donald Weilerstein and Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory and with Miriam Fried at the Jacobs School of Music.
